distinguished budget awad

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award Program to the City of Lilburn for the first time in history!

The award represents a significant achievement by the city. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the city had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the city’s budget serves as a Policy Document, a Financial Plan, an Operations Guide, and a Communication Tool.

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all 4 categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

Comprehensive Plan Workshop On 1/27

Join your neighbors to help shape how Lilburn grows over the next five years! Residents are invited to attend the Comprehensive Plan Workshop on tomorrow, January 27, from 4:30–6:30 p.m.

This workshop represents the last opportunity for the public to help inform the direction of the city’s mid-cycle Comprehensive Plan update. There will be a final opportunity to comment in February-date TBD.

During the meeting, two future growth scenarios will be presented for review and discussion. Community input will help determine whether the city’s long-range planning focus emphasizes mobility, a daily community framework, or a combination of both approaches.

The presentation will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. Those who arrive early are welcome to enjoy pizza and interactive activities before the meeting begins.

The Comprehensive Plan guides future zoning and land use decisions, ensuring that growth aligns with the community’s vision, infrastructure and quality of life. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their feedback.

Old Town PLanning charrette

And...design Old Town!

Residents and stakeholders are invited to take part in the conversation and share their thoughts on a Downtown Master Plan for the City of Lilburn. This planning process is an opportunity for the community to help shape the future vision for Old Town Lilburn.

The first public session will take place on Monday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Lilburn Fellowship Hall. Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share ideas.

Following the week-long charrette, the results will be presented on Friday, February 20. The presentation time will be announced in the coming weeks. We invite you to join us and be part of the conversation.

What's the difference between these two plans?

While both planning efforts help guide Lilburn’s future, they serve different purposes:

Comprehensive Plan

  • Covers the entire city
  • Provides long-range guidance for land use, transportation, housing, and growth
  • Helps inform future zoning and development decisions

Downtown Master Plan

  • Focuses specifically on Old Town
  • Explores design concepts, mobility, public spaces, and redevelopment opportunities
  • Creates a shared vision for one specific area of the city

Together, these plans work hand in hand — the Comprehensive Plan establishes the citywide framework, while the Downtown Master Plan provides more detailed guidance for downtown.

Work is underway at the First Avenue and Main Street assemblage, a public-private partnership led by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to support future investment in Old Town Lilburn. Crews are preparing the 2.61-acre site for a mixed-use development, which is planned to include commercial space along Main Street and residential units along Velva Way.

As this project moves forward, all plans and renderings remain conceptual and subject to change.
